Cabine Des Anges is Montevue’s striking three-storey wooden mountain cabin, built around huge windows and stacking doors that open the interior to panoramic Klein Karoo mountain and valley views. It is a spacious option for families and groups of friends and sleeps a maximum of six adults, with additional sleeper-couch space that can work well for children.

Sleeping layout

The upper loft has two double beds and a full bathroom with a bath overlooking the mountains. The main middle level contains the large open-plan living room and well-equipped kitchen, plus an additional pull-out couch. The separate lower flatlet has a double bed, another pull-out couch and its own bathroom with a shower. Outside there is also an outdoor shower and the memorable open-air “loo with a view”.

Everything for a memorable mountain stay

The cabin includes indoor and outdoor braai areas, a private wood-fired hot tub, clean bedding and towels, a full kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, cutlery, crockery and braai equipment, as well as small entertainment options for quiet evenings. A Smart TV can be used for downloaded or cast content but there are no live television channels or DSTV. There are books, cards and board games, and Montevue normally provides an 8-inch Dobsonian telescope for viewing the moon, planets, stars and even distant wildlife.

Off-grid living

Cabine Des Anges is fully off-grid. Electricity comes from solar power, hot water is supplied by gas and general-use water is from the farm supply/borehole; guests should bring fresh drinking water. Normal low-power devices and phone charging are fine, but appliances with heating elements such as hairdryers are not suitable for the solar system. There is no Wi-Fi or mobile-phone signal at the cabin. Signal can usually be found a short drive toward Montagu or by walking up to Signal Hill behind the cabin; a 4x4 can drive closer to the signal point.

Full access to Montevue

You have the entire cabin to yourself and access to the wider 1,050-hectare nature farm. Explore the farm’s hiking, mountain-biking and 4x4 routes, picnic in the veld, look for wildlife and visit viewpoints. Guests may also spend time at Kaalbas Dam for picnics, braais, swimming or kayaking when the water level and conditions are suitable. The farm is about 15 minutes outside Montagu and around 2.5 hours from Cape Town, while still feeling exceptionally private.
