MORE ABOUT

Montevue Nature Farm

It Is The Perfect Escape

This property flows gracefully between beautiful Klein Karoo mountains and natural veld.  It is a setting made for total relaxation. Unlike most other Guest Farms in the area, we wanted you to feel like you are totally secluded in the Karoo. Feel like your luxury accommodation unit just dropped from the sky and fell into the middle of the Karoo.

Even though it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere, you are less than 15 minutes from town. The eco-friendly units on the property are all spaced out from each other and out of each other’s view, so you feel totally in sync with nature. You can explore the 1050ha nature farm at your own pace, hike, 4×4, Mountain Bike and climb to explore this unique property, like it was your own.

HISTORY OF MONTEVUE? Many many years ago, this property was presumably part of a bigger property where people farmed with sheep and cattle. Some structures still exist, such as the Karoo Stone Cottage, old fencing and some of the dams, and the old 1929 Studdebaker car wreck. Later on people used this farm for game farming, and also small scale olive farming, but then a new owner bought the farm and unfortunately it was very neglected for almost 12 years, until we saw the potential and bought it in 2019. We bought the farm and named it “Montevue” (Mountain Views).

Our initial vision for it was to become a nature farm for a weekend getaway for our family and friends.  The main reason for getting it, is for us to unwind, relax, and feel at totally at peace in nature, without stress. We also want to expose our children, who currently live in Cape Town, to nature and the Karoo – a simpler life. We want to teach them to break away from the hustle and bustle of city life and technology to simply enjoy nature and everything it has to offer, just like we did when we grew up in the country side. We believe there is a lot of value in taking a break to enjoy a simpler life and to get away from technology and the stress and fast pace of the city. It means wonders for our family, our relationship and for our children.

OUR VISION FOR MONTEVUE?  We want people to share our passion for the Karoo and unspoiled nature. So our vision has since become to fix up and restore a few self catering cabins on the farm, keeping it eco-friendly, but also luxurious, and to rent it out to guests. We want our units to be unique and different to other accommodations in the area by having fewer units on the farm, each one far apart so that it feels secluded. We want it simple and in the middle of nature on the outside, but luxurious on the inside.

We have created hiking trails, MTB trails and 4×4 routes so people can access more of the property to enjoy it.  Use it to explore the farm and enjoy this unique part of the Karoo.

Our end vision includes relocating previously indigenous game like Springbok, Gemsbok, Mountain Zebra and Eland, to join current elusive species like our Mountain Reedbuck, Steenbok, Duiker and Kudu so that people can view and enjoy the wild animals that roam the property. We also want to restore the dams to their former glory, filled with water and fish.

Finally, we also want to give disadvantaged farm workers an opportunity to work a portion of the farm, keeping a bit of their own live stock and fruit trees, so that we can all grow and prosper together on this land. This is a long term vision for us and our children, and we hope you follow it with us.

Currently, there is already LOTS to see and do on Montevue Nature Farm. This hidden gem is an exclusive mountain paradise reserved for people who love nature and want to peace and quiet, while relaxing in simple luxury.
