The Whitehouse is a secluded luxury eco-cabin at Montevue Nature Farm, designed especially for a romantic couple or a small family who want privacy, mountain views and a complete break from city life. It sleeps up to four guests, best suited to two adults and two children, with one queen bedroom and a pull-out couch. The living area and self-catering kitchen are open plan, and the cabin is positioned out of sight and sound of other houses and roads.

Seclusion, views and outdoor living

Although the setting feels wonderfully remote, Montevue is only about 12–15 minutes from historic Montagu and Route 62, and roughly 2.5 hours from Cape Town. Around the cabin you have wide Klein Karoo mountain and valley views, a deck, braai/fire area and a private wood-fired hot tub that is ideal for relaxing during the day or stargazing at night.

Off-grid comfort

The Whitehouse runs on solar electricity and gas. The system comfortably powers normal low-demand essentials such as the fridge, lights, phone/camera charging and short microwave use, but high-powered heating appliances such as hairdryers and hair straighteners should not be used. There is no television and no mobile-phone signal at the cabin, which is intentional: the stay is designed to help guests disconnect. If you urgently need signal, it is normally available a short drive back toward Montagu or from Signal Hill on the farm.

Explore the whole farm

Guests have the Whitehouse entirely to themselves and may explore Montevue Nature Farm’s approximately 1,050 hectares. A normal car is suitable for reaching the cabin. Guests with a 4x4 can explore the steeper jeep tracks, including Dead Man’s Pass and other mountain routes; the same farm roads and tracks can also be enjoyed on foot or by mountain bike. Activities include hiking, mountain biking, picnics, birdwatching, wildlife spotting, mountain exploring, dam swimming when conditions allow and exceptional dark-sky stargazing.

Montevue is home to naturally occurring Klein Karoo wildlife and indigenous flora, so the experience is as much about slowing down and exploring the landscape as it is about the cabin itself.
